  • Total Time2 minutes
  • Yield1 drink (8 fl oz) 1x
  • DietVegan

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 fl oz (240 ml) room-temperature water
  • 1/2 level teaspoon baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)

Instructions

  1. Pour the room-temperature water into an open drinking glass.
  2. Add the baking soda.
  3. Stir for 30–60 seconds, until completely dissolved.
  4. If using lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, add it slowly and allow the fizz to settle.
  5. Serve immediately. The flavor will be mildly salty and alkaline.

Notes

Popular variations:

  • Baking soda shot: Mix 1/4 teaspoon baking soda with 2–4 fl oz water for a smaller, stronger-tasting version.
  • Lemon version: Add 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice.
  • Apple cider vinegar version: Add 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar.
  • Honey version: Add 1 teaspoon honey and stir until dissolved.
  • Lemon + ACV version: Add 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar.
  • Pink salt version: Add a very small pinch of pink salt. This increases the drink’s sodium content.

Add acidic ingredients slowly and mix only in an open glass because the drink will fizz. Never seal a fizzing mixture inside a bottle or shaker.

The nutrition information applies only to the basic baking soda and water version. Add-ins will change the calories, sugar and sodium.
